You beg Michael not to bring up the Kefir Story. You understand that your companions will most probably be most unsympathetic to his views, but he is resolute in the necessity of “regaling” them. Unfortunately, the conversation proceeds exactly as you would have expected it. You did not expect Michael to compellingly recount the story of the time he poured kefir on a little person, but he is even less articulate than you imagined. While he speaks passionately and earnestly, it’s clear that the anecdote is not at all suited to the company. Initially polite in their reprisal of Michael, the rest of the table becomes impatient and sarcastic with him. Although he doesn’t cry, he seems near tears; the rest of the table is obviously making him feel bad about himself, both in terms of tolerance and intellectual acuity.
However, it turns out that you need not have been concerned. When things looked their worst for him, Michael orders a veritable treasure trove of alcoholic beverages. Within the hour, you and all of your companions are drunk as lords and surreptitiously fondling each other under the table. So, for that matter, are the rest of the restaurant’s diners.
It is at this point that your recollection becomes hazy; your next clear memory is finally waking up the next morning at 11:00am, sick and laconic and not especially enthusiastic about continuing your mission. The rest of your team is in the same boat. Micheal, however, appears to be fine.
