Made on Honor, Sold on Merit
I’ve been speaking to The People, of “We...” fame,
who have a sneaking suspicion
that this is something, for once,
a trip to the dollar store won’t fix
front yard promises that, “In this house,
every court is a Supreme Court,”
have grown faded and grass-clad
and donated clothing heads by the truckload
to scarecrow country
I am haunted by a warning from the coin collector’s forum:
it’ll only look worse
if you clean it
to all those I have left in the lurch:
would you begrudge me
envying your being there?
it’s that my family and alcohol,
well, it’s like German shepherds and hips!
not to mention that this no-coke May
is getting out of hand
one doomed handshake after another
and the election called by a heatwave
“Sinking?” the Frenchman asks,
“What are you sinking about?”back
